John Ternus: Who He Is and Why Tim Cook's Job Could Be Next

The John Ternus Hype Train: Are We Seriously Doing This Again?

Okay, seriously? Another "he's the next CEO" article about John Ternus? Give me a break. It's like clockwork. Tim Cook sneezes, and suddenly every tech blog is dusting off their "Apple Succession Plan" templates. We've seen this before, haven't we? Remember the "Jony Ive is a genius" era? How'd that turn out?

The articles are all the same. "He's got the technical chops!" "He's been there for 20 years!" "He's the right age!" So what? That just means he's really good at navigating Apple's corporate bureaucracy. Doesn't exactly scream "visionary" to me.

    The Cult of Personality 2.0

Let's be real: Apple is a cult. Not in the creepy, robes-and-ritual sense, but in the way they build up these personalities, these demi-gods, around their products. First it was Jobs, then Cook, and now they're trying to shove John Ternus down our throats.

And honestly, what has Ternus actually done? He "oversees hardware engineering." Okay, great. So does a million other people. He's trotted out at Apple events to smile and nod while they unveil the latest overpriced gadget. That's his qualification?

He’s 50, same age as Cook when he took over. Oh wow. What a coincidence. I bet they even buy their socks from the same store.

Here’s the thing though: I don’t actually know what John Ternus’s salary is, or his net worth, or anything interesting about him. And clearly, neither does anyone else. It’s all just speculation and manufactured hype.

    The Innovation Question

The FT report says some argue the board may favor Ternus because Cook’s reviews for innovation are mixed. Mixed? Seriously? The guy turned Apple into a four TRILLION dollar company. Yeah, maybe he’s not Steve Jobs, but who is? Are we really gonna pretend that a hardware engineer is suddenly going to sprinkle fairy dust on the next iPhone and make it… what? Teleport us to Mars?

And don't even get me started on the AI angle. Every article mentions Apple "doubling down on innovation in hardware and AI." Doubling down? Where's the proof? Last I checked, Siri still couldn't understand a simple request without having a complete meltdown. Maybe Ternus is secretly a genius AI whisperer, but forgive me if I remain skeptical.

I mean, what if Apple doesn’t pick Ternus? Then what? All this hype for nothing. It's like when everyone was convinced that Hillary Clinton was a shoo-in for president. We all know how that turned out.

    Succession Speculation: A National Pastime

The article mentions other names like Jeff Williams, Craig Federighi, and Deirdre O’Brien. Honestly, they’re probably all just as qualified (or unqualified) as Ternus. It's all a game. A corporate game of thrones, where everyone's jockeying for position, leaking stories to the press, and stabbing each other in the back.

I'm not saying Ternus is a bad guy. I'm sure he's a perfectly competent executive. But this whole "he's the chosen one" narrative just feels so manufactured, so… Apple.

Offcourse, the timing of all this is interesting. Cook’s 65, that’s the unofficial retirement age in the US. But let’s be real, these guys don’t retire, do they? They just move into a “chairman” role and continue to pull the strings from behind the scenes.

    So, What's the Real Story?

Look, I'm not buying it. This is just another round of corporate PR, designed to keep the Apple stock price high and the fanboys salivating. John Ternus might be a perfectly nice guy, but he ain't the messiah. And frankly, I'm tired of being told who to worship.
